Print Comment
A canine unit with the Weld County's Sheriff's Office made the latest arrest of one of Weld's Most Wanted suspect Friday night.

According to a Sheriff's Office press release, Yogi, a dog with the agency, was called out to help locate a suspect who fled during a traffic stop on the 1900 block of 7th Street.

The dog followed the man's track from the vehicle and within five minutes found Michael Mercado, 23 of Greeley, hiding under a vehicle about a block away. Mercado was on the March 2009 Weld's Most Wanted list.

Mercado was booked into the Weld County Jail on an outstanding arrest warrant for contempt of court, escape, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and new charges including criminal impersonation and a marijuana offense.

Twelve fugitives featured on the March Weld's Most Wanted list have been captured since March 4 in Greeley, Loveland, Evans, and Vancouver, Wash.
